Meanwhile in Diamond City's main square…
Music filled the air as many kinds of performers and the like came out to make their stands and, hopefully, some cash. Now this wasn't her first time in the city, but Lily had never been here at this time of day before. Though to most the many sounds would seem like a mess, all she heard was a melody of uniquely wonderful proportions.
"I would just love to set up a shop here. It's such a nice place!" Lily smiled as she walked with her sister through the crowds.
"That's why we're here, remember? To get a garage so we can set up a real Mechanic's shop!" Mariana was smiling too, though not for the same reasons.
"No, I mean a music shop… or maybe a diner! That would be so much fun!"
The two began to laugh as they walked into the building they had come to. Their request for some land didn't quite turn out though, and they weren't in such high spirits then…
Lily smiled, "Oh well, looks like we're still stuck at WarioWare Inc. for now!" she shrugged as she said this.
"ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!? I CAN'T STAND TO STAY THERE ANOTHER DAY!!! THAT DIRTY LITTLE THIEF IS GETTING ON MY NEREVS!!!" Mariana, unlike her little sister, was fuming.
"Whoa! Mar'! C- cool it! You're gonna melt someone with that kind'a steam!"
She stretched her fingers and took a deep breath, "I'm fine. I'm cool."
"I know. Hmmm… how about we head to that little Italian place you like so much? My treat!"
Mariana stopped and looked up at her, "You're the one that likes that place so much."
"So? You don't not like it!" Lily looked down at her with a grin.
"Oh fine," she smiled back, "But I'm not paying for anything!"
"Deal!" Lily grinned as she slipped her hands into her pockets. "Huh?!"
"What's the matter?"
Lily was going through her pockets now, all of them. She even looked under her hat. "Uh… I think I left my wallet at Wario's…"
"You're kidding, right?"
Lily's ears drooped, "No? … I-it's okay though! You go ahead and head to the restaurant. I'll just go by his place and pick it up before meeting you there!"
"Well, okay! If you say so… Later!"
Lily smiled and waved as her sister ran off, "Chow!"
It wasn't far to Wario's, so it didn't take her long at all. But what she found, or more like what she couldn't find, wasn't exactly what she had hoped. There was no trace of her wallet at all, and Wario claimed not to have seen it. Lily realized that her money wasn't in her wallet anyway, though, and picked it up. She figured that she'd go look for it after lunch.
Lily was still in a bit of a funk though as she walked into the diner. She explained what was up to Mar' and sighed.
"I just don't get why someone would take it when there wasn't any money in it…"
Mariana was silent for a bit, but a laugh soon filled the air. "This is just epic! A mystery! We have ourselves a mystery!!" She was grinning and laughing as she spoke, "Oh! And I know just what we need!"
Lily was confused, "What?"
"Fetch me a pipe and a fancy hat, Lily! We must be on our way!" Mar' was suddenly talking with an odd accent.
"A pipe?! But… you don't smoke," Lily looked at her as she stood and began to walk away, "And I'd rather eat first. I'm hungry. And I don't really care that the wallet's gone so-"
"Lily!" Mariana grabbed the collar of Lily's jacket and looked her in the eyes, "Mysteries don't solve themselves! We must track down the trail and chase the truth! We must solve this mystery!"
"… You've been reading those Herringway mystery novels again, haven't you?"
Mariana just let go and continued out the door, "I need my hat!"
Lily sighed and shook her head as a smile spread across her face. "Yep. That's my sister all right! I lose my wallet and she immediately thinks 'adventure!'." She slowly stood and followed Mar' out.
It took them about an hour just to find all the things Mariana claimed she needed. The hardest of which were her hat, a long trench coat, and a magnifying glass, just to name a few.
Once she was all decked out though, she was ready to start investigating the ''disappearance'' as she called. She was asking everyone on the street what they knew and if they had seen anyone suspicious, but she kept neglecting to mention what exactly was missing here.
"Mar', I really hate to burst your bubble here, but I don't think we're getting anywhere with this…"
"You're right! Oh, Lily! How could I be so blind! They're all liars! Rotten apples, if you will. They won't tell us anything because they likely know the culprit and are covering for him! Yes! What we need are a few fresh apples! We need to go to the Orchard and pick the apple ourselves! We need to- … Lily?"
Lily wasn't paying attention anymore. She had decided to ask someone herself, and she had already picked out whom. There was a group of what appeared to be Koopa's across the street, and they looked to be looking for something themselves. Maybe they had found something of use to her along their way.
"Um- excuse me!" Lily called to them as she crossed the street.
The green one turned to face her, "Do you mean us?"
Lily stepped up to them, "Yes."
The only Goomba in the group smiled as he, too, turned to her, "Can we help you, miss?"
"Oh! Uh, yeah. Sorry. I couldn't help but notice you guys were searching for something so I- Well I seemed to have lost something myself. So I was wondering if you might have seen anything that could help me."
"Boy, that's a shame. What did you lose?"
Lily sighed, "My wallet, if you can believe it. I think it fell out of my pocket sometime this morning," She shrugged, "I don't usually just lose stuff like that though, so I'm not really sure."
The Hammer Bro suddenly seemed to get slightly edgy at the sound of this. "You lost your wallet too? Now I know something is up here."
"Well geez. If you're looking for something too, is there anything I could do to maybe help you? I know this city pretty well and I know the people that live here too," She smiled. "Maybe we can speed this search along by workin' together!"
The two looked at her with smiles, "Sounds like a plan to me!"
"Sheesh, Lily! Why'd you run off like that?!" Mariana had just walked up behind Lily as the two had accepted her help.
"Oh! Sorry sis', didn't mean to leave you hanging like that," Lily smiled nervously at her sister. "I think I found us some help though! These guys are looking for some stuff too so we thought we'd help each other out!"
"Oh! Well in that case… allow me to formally introduce my sister and me. We go by the sisters Rain!" Mariana grinned as she said this.
Lily just giggled, "That's actually just our last name. I'm Lily, and this is Mariana!"
"Well it's nice to meet you two! We're the Nova Bros!"
